Endorsement of Candidates

Community Education

Council Election Team

NEW

Dear PA/PTA presidents and officers:

We are in receipt of multiple complaints regarding endorsements of candidates in the Education Council elections by PA/PTAs and/or their officers.

We would like to remind you that while you are free to express opinions as individuals, you must avoid the impression that you are speaking for the PA/PTA; therefore, you must not use your titles if you choose to speak--whether in positive or negative terms--about specific candidates.

We also want to emphasize that PA/PTAs must not get involved in campaigns for public office.  Therefore, you must not disseminate endorsements or negative comments about any candidate via email or social media platforms that are regularly used for communications to and among your membership, and you must take down inappropriate posts made by others.  If your PA/PTA is a 501(c)3, involvement in a political campaign may also endanger its nonprofit status.

Finally, if you are also a current Education Council member or candidate, you must follow the restrictions on endorsements and candidate slates in Chancellor's Regulation D-130 and the Campaigning Guidelines.

Best,

The CCEC Elections Team
