Our Mission

To prepare ALL students to live in, contribute to a 21st Century world, and engage in active learning, PS92Q provides a balanced school curriculum designed to meet the academic, cultural, and social needs of individuals from diverse backgrounds in our community.

Instructional Focus

ELA:
PS 92 is dedicated to strengthening grade-wide reading comprehension across all genres through targeted growth in fluency, vocabulary, and evidence-based questioning

  • To Develop fluency, we will build stamina through eyes on texts.
  • To Develop vocabulary, we will select high leverage vocabulary (Tiers 2&3), explicitly teach through context clues and word parts.
  • To Strengthen questioning, we will use text dependent questions, plan for anticipatory questions by backwards planning
  • To Strengthen academic discussions, we will use open ended questions so students can build upon each other’s ideas in reading and writing.

Math:
PS 92 is dedicated to strengthening mathematics rigor (conceptual understanding, fluency, and application) with an emphasis on academic discussion and problem solving.

  • To strengthen Mathematics Rigor, we will use school wide math routines.
  • To develop Academic Discussions, we will use cohesive language across all grades, we will plan for Anticipatory questions using DOK to make connections with strategies and skills and to solidify mathematical understanding, to infuse Tier 2 and 3 Academic vocabulary, and to strengthen discussion with Think, Pair, Share protocol
  • To Make sense of multi-step word problems, we will be using Three Reads (2-5), Notice and Wonder (K-1), and the CUBS Strategy to support student understanding and written explanations.
